DOG HAIKU

I lie belly-up
In the sunshine, happier than
You ever will be

I sound the alarm!
Garbage man - come to kill all -
Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

How do I love thee?
The ways are numberless as
My hairs on the rug.

Look in my eyes and
Deny it. No human could
Love you as much I do.

I am your best friend,
Now, always, and especially
When you are eating.

I LOVE MOM'S FIG TREE!

The fig tree smells SO sweet and delicious! Sometimes mom will break off a twig and we'll play fetch ... at least until I decide to chew it up. There aren't a lot of figs this year so the birds will probably get them once they get ripe. Sometimes I'll eat one, but I really just like to roll around in the leaves!

WHAT'S THAT SMELL? SMELLS LIKE FALL!

It's been very cool here in the mountains. Yesterday I think I even smelled someone using their fireplace. I'm really enjoying staying outside, especially in the early mornings.
This picture is from last fall. I had a lot of fun rolling around in those leaves. I'm looking forward to it again this year. Maybe my mom will rake up a pile for me to jump into! (Mom are you reading this?)

PAWS FOR PESTICIDES

This is my friend Charlie Hunt (his momma is Bonnie). Charlie accidentally walked on a lawn that had been treated with chemicals. It burned the pads on his paws. The vet wanted to put him on steroids and give him antibiotics, but his momma decided to wash his paws with warm salt water and buy him some little kid's cotton socks to wear.
Charlie is doing much better, but I just want everybody to be aware that pesticides and chemicals put on grass can really hurt your pet.
There are MUCH better, more natural alternatives to keeping your lawn beautiful and pest free. Please consider your pet AND the environment when using anything on your lawn.
Leo says, "THANKS!"

GROANER

A man took his Rottweiler to the vet and said to him, "My dog's cross-eyed.
Is there anything you can do for him?"
"Well," said the vet "let's have a look at him".
He picks the dog up by the ears and has a good look at his eyes.
"Well," says the vet "I'm going to have to put him down."
"Just because he's cross-eyed?" says the man.
"No, because he's heavy," says the vet.

ALL ABOUT THUNDER

Thunder:
A signal the world is coming to an end.
Humans remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms,
so it is necessary to warn them of the danger
by trembling, panting, rolling your eyes wildly and following at their heels.

LEO'S BODY LANGUAGE

These three examples of canine body language are my most frequently used ...
Confident I stand straight and tall with my head held high, ears perked up and eyes bright. My mouth may be slightly open but is relaxed. My tail may sway gently, curl loosely or hang in a relaxed position. I am friendly, non-threatening and at ease with my surroundings.
Happy A happy dog will show the same signs as a confident dog. In addition, I usually wag my tail and sometimes hold my mouth open more or even pant mildly. I appear even more friendly and content than the confident dog, with no signs of anxiety.

Playful A playful dog is happy and excited. His ears are up, eyes are bright and tail wags rapidly. I jump and run around with glee. Often, a playful dog will exhibit the "play bow" - front legs stretched forward, head straight ahead, rear end up in the air and possibly wiggling. This is most certainly an invitation to play! I say LET'S GO!

DOG TIRED!

Ah! The glorious days of summer! There is nothing better than laying in the cool grass under the cherry tree! Later I'll be chasing the John Deere around the yard while dad mows and then I'll get to help him wash the mower and get a bath myself.
Life is SO good!
